Hair Stylist plays Matchmaker…by Stacey Linden

Book an appointment with this hairstylist and you may just get more than a fabulous new do!

Hair stylist Jill Hammelman spends so much time working at her West Village business Extensions by JILL that she doesn't have time to meet men. So a few months ago, she hatched a plan to combine her livelihood with her search for love. Every client who sets her up on a date gets 20% off hair services. A second date means a second 20% off, and so on. If Hammelman and her man decide to get married, the client who introduced them gets free hair styling for life. Considering that the average woman spends a minimum of $50,000 on her hair over the course of her lifetime, that's a pretty amazing deal.

"I built this business by referral," explains Hammelman in a YouTube video. "So I figured, why not try for love?" So far, the “Hair for Love” YouTube video and her offer have brought an overwhelming amount of solid candidates.

Now that Hammelman’s social life has picked up and she has set a new plan in motion…

Playing “Matchmaker” for her clients!

I am so excited to share the love!” says Hammelman.  She has met so many great men that now she is starting to set them up with her single clients.  As a hairstylist, she connects to her clients on a personal level, and she is paying it forward with matchmaking.

Hair for love...it's catching!

NEW Interview with JILL on Like Bright! JILL of ALL TRADES!

A Jill of all trades

November 3, 2011
By
I admire a woman who knows what she wants and is creative about trying to get it.  Jill Hammelman is one such woman. She put herself out there, becoming a social media darling by offering a discount on hair services for dates, and free hair services for life for finding her future husband. She has been featured previously on LikeBright but was gracious to answer a few questions about how successful her campaign has been so far. Thanks, Jill!

1.       How did you come up with the idea of bartering hair services for dates?
After a long day of work, I was relaxing at home responding to a few online dating emails while watching the Tonight Show. I saw the funny ads segment and instantly the idea popped into my head. I knew then I had to do it!

2.       How are your customers reacting to the idea? Have they been setting you up on dates?
My customers love it!  They all think it’s fantastic and excitedly share with their girlfriends, boyfriends and husbands. Several of my customers have set me up and continue to set me up.

3.       How successful are the dates so far? Are people finding you the guys that you like?
I have been on many first dates and a handful of second dates. Although I have definitely met some great quality top notch guys I haven’t found that chemistry or special spark just yet.

4.       Have you changed what you are looking for since you started? What have you learned?
I can definitely say I have become more open now to what I am looking for. I don’t think you can prejudge what package love will show up in. So being open is really helpful. Also, over time and with more experience, I became good at distinguishing between sincerity and insincerity and cutting my losses.

5.       Are you having fun in the process?
I am totally having a blast!

6.       How are you handling all the fame? Do men recognize you on the street and ask you out?
I haven’t been recognized on the street yet. But I have been recognized at events and in social settings. Both men and women have been really supportive, coming up to me saying they love the idea and wishing me luck! And I have had single men approach me and ask me out. It has been a great opener to meeting someone I may not have met otherwise.

7.       How is dating in NY compared to elsewhere?
Oh wow. NYC dating can be tough. The women outnumber the men and people tend to stay in their own little social worlds. So best way to approach dating in NYC is to get out there! Join and attend everything! You gotta be in it to win it. ;)

8.       How would you describe yourself?
Smart, driven, passionate and creative. Adventurous and compassionate. A JILL of all trades.
